Canadianhistory.ca features the historical works of more than 140 leading Canadian scholars written for a general audience. All content has been peer reviewed by an editorial board of leading anglophone and francophone historians. The website, which is still under development, is a major addition to our nation's online Canadian history resources.
Canadianhistory.ca is a multimedia history of Canada intended for general audiences. The tagline for the website—The Many Histories of Canada—attempts to capture the multiplicity of understandings that make up our understanding of Canadian history.
The core of Canadianhistory.ca lies in its 5 interpretative narratives of Canadian history:
Each narrative is written by a leading expert in the field and features a comprehensive timeline describing the who, what, when, where, and why of important events in our history.
Accompanying the 5 narratives of Canadianhistory.ca are more than 120 case studies that offer detailed investigations of major issues in our history.
Canadianhiistory.ca is generously illustrated with more than 1600 historical images (including hundreds of specially selected cartoons and dozens of rare panoramas), hundreds of maps and graphs, and sound and film clips.
We hope you will subscribe to Canadianhistory.ca's social media channels.
In the coming months, Canadianhistory.ca will integrate more and more online resources, adding to its value as a foundational work for the general public and all students of Canadian history.
Canadianhistory.ca was originally launched as a CD-ROM/Web publication called Canada, Confederation to Present. It was also Chinook Multimedia's first project and was created with the financial assistance of the Department of Canadian Heritage/Patrimoine canadien and Telefilm Canada. The University of Alberta provided crucial logistical support during the more than two years we worked on this massive undertaking. We certainly could not have succeeded without this generous support.
Chinook Multimedia has invested thousands of hours of labour to prepare Canadianhistory.ca's content and build the website. We hope you enjoy the result and look forward to your feedback..

When a new client comes to you on the recommendation of one of your clients and on top of that likes your work, it's a feel good moment. That's how IUPAT District Council 17 became our client.
John Sedor, DC17's Business Manager, liked the Building Trades of Alberta website. We built that site in 2014 and have maintained and updated it since then. We also built the IUPAT Local 177 website, which now needed to amalgamated into a new District Council website. Furthermore, John needed some emergency help after another developer stopped supporting their website. We set up a temporary site and soon began work on the new WordPress website for District Council 17.
John continued to be involved, and we collaborated directly with Chris Hooter, DC 17's Director of Training through the web design and web development process. Chris provided new content for the website and also managed the project on a day-to-day basis for DC 17.
The subject matter expertise and project management skills John and Chris brought to the project helped to keep costs down and speed up development.
The result is a great website built quickly and at a reasonable cost - exactly what web design clients look for.
John and Chris wanted to make sure the new DC 17 website provided

You can also find photos of the impressive training facilities available through District Council 17 and its member unions, Local 739 and Local 177.
The website uses the WordPress content management system. Chinook Multimedia provides DC17 with hosting and maintenance services on an ongoing basis.

We build affordable non-profit websites. We recently had the pleasure of working with Don Miller on the creation of a new website for the Loyal Eddies. We already knew Don through our work on The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum website. Don takes care of the content updates on that site and his recommendation led to our work on the Loyal Eddie's website. Thanks for the referral Don.
After a number of stalled attempts by well-meaning volunteers to update and expand the Loyal Edmonton Regiment website, we decided to go to the professionals. The site looks great.
I’ve worked with Bob and his team at Chinook before on the Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum website and have always received excellent guidance and service. It was, therefore, an easy decision to go with Chinook again for the revisions to the Regiment’s website. Bob took our vision for the expanded site and provided us with a modern design that combined old and new content in a format suitable for all platforms. When the initial test site was put up, requests for minor changes in structure or content were quickly dealt with and we were soon ready to launch the site for all to see. Bob continued to assist with any further fixes needed and provided training on WordPress that will allow us to do basic maintenance on the website ourselves. He and his team continue to stand ready to assist with anything that we can’t handle by ourselves. All of this was done at a very reasonable cost. In fact, I feel we got more for our money than the contract specified.
Based on my experience with Chinook on two websites, I would gladly recommend them to anyone considering building a website.

Project Lead
Loyal Eddies Website
The Loyal Edmonton Regiment is a Primary Reserve unit of the Canadian Forces. Their new website highlights the Regiment's important role in training infantry soldiers for the Canadian forces. This historic Regiment began as the 101st Regiment (Edmonton Fusiliers). It has won battle honours in both World Wars and most recently in Afghanistan.
In addition to focussing on the ongoing contributions of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment, Don wanted the new website to appeal to new recruits and provide news and events updates for members.
We built the Loyal Eddies website in WordPress. It offered the functionality, user-friendly admin options, and cost-efficiency the project required. We hope you will check out the important work done by Edmonton's own Loyal Edmonton Regiment. There are some great photos of the Reserve Unit in action.
Congratulations to Don and the Loyal Eddies on the launch of their new website.
Chinook Multimedia hosts the website and provides support as needed.

Non-profit Camp Wohelo had a problem. Its website was down and the volunteer webmaster had moved on. Camp Wohelo's Google search for web design companies that build non-profit websites led straight to Chinook Multimedia. Could we help?
Camp Wohelo came to the right place. Chinook Multimedia specializes in helping non-profits build affordable non-profit websites.
We at Camp Wohelo are very happy with how the website has turned out. Bob at Chinook Multimedia is very easy to work with and also very professional. He listened to what we wanted and explained what we needed.
He recommended several cost effective ways to have a very professional, nice looking and functioning website. Working with Bob Hesketh and his team at Chinook MultimediaI was a pleasure, and quite a learning experience!
We highly recommend them!

Camp Wohelo
Unfortunately, access to the server and Camp Wohelo's website left with the former volunteer webmaster. A new website proved to be the only alternative.
Cost was an immediate and unexpected issue for Camp Wohelo. But since Camp Wohelo needed a new website anyway, it decided to expand what the website could do. Danette Barner, a Camp Wohelo volunteer, explained the non-profit's needs. The website had to:
And the Camp was a non-profit and so its new non-profit website had to fit within a limited budget.
Chinook Multimedia worked with Danette to provide specifications for each of the Camp's needs and to come up with solutions within the Camp's budget.
Some ingenuity was required. We recommended building the website in WordPress because of its outstanding functionality, options, and support. We used a powerful WordPress theme that could help to cut the non-profit's web design costs. And we offered Camp Wohelo, a small non-profit, a generous non-profit web design discount.
Chinook Multimedia and Danette communicated on almost a daily basis throughout the web design process. The Camp needed its website in a hurry so that it could accept registrations for its rapidly approaching summer camps.
We understand Camp Wohelo is happy to finally have a professional website and that registrations are proceeding apace. Thanks for your kind testimonial and acknowledgement of our work in Camp Wohelo's first blog. We look forward to supporting Camp Wohelo's online initiatives in the coming years.

Need a non-profit website? Second Sixties did. It was looking for a web design company that understands the needs of non-profit organizations and specializes in designing and developing non-profit websites. Second Sixties found what it needed when it contacted Chinook Multimedia.
We build affordable non-profit websites.
We found Chinook Multimedia via an Internet search for website development for non-profit organizations. We then approached Chinook Multimedia to discuss our project to rebuild the Club’s existing website. Noting that Chinook were willing to work with non-profit organizations, we were hopeful that Chinook would be able to deliver a quality website within our tight budget.
Bob was very understanding of our requirements and provided valuable advice and recommendations on content, photos and overall web design and a strategy to keep within our budget. He communicates clearly, is easy to understand and was keen to build on ongoing relationship with us.
We are based in Calgary so demos and training on maintenance were handled using webcams that worked out well. When the website was delivered for our review, we were delighted with the results and had only a few suggestions for minor changes. Bob and Vasily had translated our requirements into an attractive website that is easy to navigate.
Vasily delivered a training session on the use of Word Press and we are confident that we will be able to maintain the website ourselves. Bob and Vasily made it clear that we can contact them with any questions that arise.
We would recommend using Chinook Multimedia to anyone considering building a website.

Second Sixties Outdoor Club
Second Sixties Outdoor Club is a very active, non-profit Calgary-based hiking club for 50+ outdoor enthusiasts. Club members and guests can participate in hikes in the spring and summer and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Favourite destinations include Kananaskis Country, Banff, Lake Louise, Kootenay, and Yoho National Parks. The Club charters buses for transportation to it activities.
Second Sixties had outgrown its original website. The Club's active Board of Directors knew what it wanted in a new website and that it had a limited budget to achieve its goals. In late 2016, Doug Harrison, the outgoing president of the Club, contacted Chinook Multimedia CEO Bob Hesketh to explain the club's needs and see if Chinook could help. Second Sixties wanted a new website that could:.
Leveraging the website to market the Club to new members was a major consideration.
The non-profit Club also needed to plan carefully to keep costs down. Bob worked with Doug to help identify practical steps the Club could take to reduce development costs:
We recommended WordPress because it provides outstanding functionality, options, and support and has powerful themes that can dramatically cut web design costs. We also offered Second Sixties, a small non-profit, a generous non-profit web design discount.
The Club needed time to go through its old site and update its content, removing, revising, and writing new text as needed. The Club also had to sort through its photo assets for the new website. By March 2017, the Club was ready. The Club's webmaster, Julie Jones, worked directly with Bob during the construction of the non-profit website. Thanks to the Club's careful preparation, the construction of the website went quickly and the new website was launched on budget in April.
Our congratulations to Second Sixties Outdoor Club on its new website. We host the website and look forward to supporting the Club's online initiatives in the coming years.
